When a per-trip enquiry fits
A defined pickup, delivery and load make it easier to agree a single movement. This can suit occasional supplier collections or one transfer between sites. Confirm whether the quote covers extra stops, the return journey and waiting; those are separate scope questions, even when the distance looks short.
When project hire is worth discussing
Recurring work across several days or a continuing project can justify a planned hire arrangement. Share expected working days, travel areas, trips and periods when the vehicle may wait. Ask how assignment, schedule changes and any replacement arrangement would work. Do not assume unlimited trips or round-the-clock availability.
Compare the same scope
Give both options the same route list, working schedule and cargo assumptions. Compare the total agreed cost and operational fit, including how waiting, tolls, additional trips, loading support and overnight work are treated in each quote. Review the cancellation and change terms before committing.
Use a realistic first schedule
If the project volume is uncertain, share the confirmed work separately from possible future work. Start the discussion with the next known dates and review the arrangement when the actual transport pattern is clearer.
